i have taught students in primary school when i was in secondary 2 and 3. i stopped teachin in sec 4 as i wanted to concentrate on my studies. i have a passion for teaching and aim to pursue it as a career and i am very serious about it. i feel that a student woud learn easier from someone of their age group as it is easier to communicate and this proves effective in group study and such. i aim to be a lecturer someday and am using this opportunity seriously. when i taught students in sec 2 and 3, i used materials such as past year school papers from top 10 schools in singapore which is extremely effective . in addition i have taught my students skills of making effective notes that i have learnt through the years in my school. i guarantee the child would jump grades for the exams.
i have taught around 6 children in secondary 2 and around 5 in secondary 3. grades pri 2 - pri 4. they have done exceptionally well and have trusted me as i have proved that although i am young i was able to provide tremendous results . i am 17 and i am waiting for my O level results now and decided to pursue my teaching to help my family's financial burden and be more independant to my own learning. i hope that i would be given a chance and i assure that i would provide results. i prefer teaching on saturday mornings and am willing to start asap. i would use certain books and materials that i have shortlisted.
Rapport Building
i do not want my tuition sessions to be boring and make the child feel as though it is a burden. i always tell the children on my past experiences in school and definitely make it a fun and engaging lesson so as the child would feel ore comfortable yet complete assignments. i would inform the parents about the child's progress and let them know about the areas of improvements and strenth of the child.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
i always use the child's textbooks as the basic guideline as it is very important for a child to know his/her basics. and moreover i check with the MOE website on the syllabus that are tested.
As a Good Tutor
i do not think that the a teacher who has better education determines one who is better. i had teachers who graduated with masters chemistry in my secondary school and had difficulty teaching what she knew. i believe that a good tutor would be able to understand a child's perspective and teach him/her that appropriate way
