Tuition/Teaching Experience
I have approximately 9 years of tutoring experience, coupled with contract and relief teaching experience. I love teaching and communicating with children, hence my choice in primary school teaching. I think I am a great tutor because I believe that every child has the potential to excel and that motivating him/her is very important. Hence, I always encourage them to believe in themselves and not to give up. I also help my students set long-term and short-term goals in their subjects and for themselves. Building rapport with the child is as important as imparting knowledge. I also work closely with the parents to ensure that the child knows our expectations and can meet his/her goals.

Rapport Building
Rapport building is key to the emotional connection with the students. We must respect the students as much as we demand it from them. We should be approachable and warm, so that they can trust us. Encouraging students to ask questions/clarify doubts is one way. Asking them how their day was and listening to them attentively when they talk about their school experiences are other ways.

Being on time for lessons and ensuring that there are make-up lessons if we miss them are also important factors. We should not hesitate to communicate regularly with the parents and keep them updated on the progress of their children. We can suggest ways in which both the tutor and parents can work together to help the children to achieve goals more effectively.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
The enriching experience in NIE, teaching in schools and contact with colleagues enable me to keep myself updated with the curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
I think a good tutor must always seek to improve his/her teaching pedagogies and vary them according to different students. Hence, flexibility is a desired trait in a good tutor. A good tutor should not only focus on teaching the student but also develop a good rapport with the students and parents. A good tutor also believes in motivating the students and inspires them to achieve better results.
