I have not officially tutored any students, however, I did part time tutoring on a voluntary basis for half a year to Primary 5 kids in a primary school.

Rapport Building
Firstly, I would communicate with them to understand the education abilities of their child as well as to understand their expectations for the tuition lesson. I would then indicate to them my teaching styles and seek their opinions on what they feel I should do instead. In the case of the student, I would get to know what are their worries on the subject so that I can help them eliminate these worries to the best of my abilities. I will also try to make them see the joy in the subject they are doing by making lessons interactive and interesting.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As I have a primary school cousin, I often check up on what they are learning and am able to gauge the syllabus myself. I would also check with my friends who are giving tuition as well on the teaching methods conducted in school today.
As a Good Tutor
I think the qualities of a good tutor are patience, responsibility, encouraging and caring.
