Keeping Up with Curriculum
Am still teaching in school as flexi-adjunc teacher and is still familiar with syllabus or changes in syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
When choosing a tuition teacher, it is not just about qualification. For example, even a professional (lawyer, doctor, etc) might not know how to solve primary school Math problem sums as they are not familiar with the strategies taught in schools or they have lost touch. They might use what they have learnt in secondary school (for example, algebra, to solve all problem). It is more important to choose tutor who is current, is familiar with syllabus, know the weighing of topics in exam, has done PSLE marking before and know how marking is carried out and how marks are allocated. As a Math teacher, one has to know the different approaches in solving the same problem sum and the different heuristics commonly used in primary schools.
