I have started giving tuition as early as my secondary school time, while I was a upper secondary student who gave tuition to the lower secondary school students. I taught mostly mathematics in my secondary school years because I am really strong at math.
During JC period, I was more focus in CCA and my own study, which forced me to give up teaching. However I did went for overseas teaching program in China, giving lessons to students from schools in the rural area of Sichuan China.
Now I am a undergraduate student studying computing in the National University of Singapore. I have good analytic skill and good memory, which makes me a great mathematics student as well as tutor. Not only I excelled my O and A level mathematics, the fact that I am studying Math now gives me an edge.
My teaching time will be Weekend.
I am able to commit as long as 2 years time.
Rapport Building
I am not only a excellent student, but I also have great personality. I am a out-going person, therefore I am able to make friends with the students and their parents quickly. In this way the teaching can be done more smoothly.
Moreover I am an articulate person. I am able to convert my thinking to simple English. Thus most of the students are able to understand what I mean and absorb the knowledge quickly.
Lastly, I have a lot of social experience. This makes me not only a good academic tutor, but also a life coach. There are a lot of things I experienced that I can tell the students, to make them become not only a better student, but also a better person.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
My family is not very wealthy, therefore I have been giving tuition and doing part-time jobs for years, so that I can ease my family's financial burden on my study.
Along the years, I have learnt how to manage my time between study and working. I usually spend my weekend working. So far I have done okay for my study as well as working.
As a Good Tutor
First of all, a good tutor must have enough knowledge. You must be a good student itself before you can teach someone else to be a good student.
Secondly, a good tutor must have clear logic and good speaking skills. Only such tutors are able to convert what they know to easy understand sentences for student to catch.
Lastly, a good tutor must be passionate. Only someone who loves what they are doing can truly do it well. If you have the passion in teaching, you will definitely be responsible in making sure your student get the best result possible. I think this is the most important things in tutoring.
