I would always refer to reliable online resources for updates in any changes in the syllabuses, at the same time ensuring that the materials(e.g. assessment books) used for tuition is relevant and synonymous with the current curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
The process of learning should always be positive and encouraging. Building a great rapport with the student is extremely essential in understanding their strengths and weaknesses. Through that we can emphasise on their strong points besides investing necessary effort in helping students counter their weaknesses.
