I have given tuition to a secondary 1 boy last year and have been volunteering to give free physics tuition to my secondary school juniors since 2 years ago. I am a strong believer that hard work and understanding are the keys for academic excellence. In other words, i do not encourage rote learning. The curriculum nowadays focuses more on applying the content that you know on novel situations rather than just regurgitating facts from the textbook.
