I am studying in NUS, majoring in Chemistry. Most recently, I taught a student Secondary 4 O Levels Chemistry from June 2013 - Nov 2013. Previously, I have also taught a student Primary Level Math Olympiad. It was a good learning experience teaching others to understand the concepts in interesting ways, and to understand their difficulties and helping them to curb it. By teaching, it allows me to better learn how to assist people in making learning a more enjoyable process
I have also taught guitar to friends regularly. It allows me to continue my passion for music and able to help others discover the joy of playing musical instruments.

Commitment / Other Details
I am able to teach on most weekdays, from late afternoon to evenings. For weekends, I have church commitments on Saturday afternoons to evenings, and Sunday mornings and sometimes evenings too. Thus, I am only available on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
Rapport Building
I usually have a short interaction time with the students to understand the recent difficulties they are going through, and give advice accordingly. This allows me to understand my students better, and effectively vary my teaching in a way that best suits them. I make myself contactable at all times, such that students can ask me questions at any time too. I will also communicate with their parents to understand how to teach their children better, and to enlighten them about the improvements or troubles their children have had.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Before the lesson, I read the topic beforehand to revise again and sieve out the most important and relevant concepts for the students. I will also ask the students regarding their current syllabus and have their homework and exam papers as reference to know what is pertinent.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor is one that goes beyond his job of just teaching concepts, but teaches the student how to improve as a student overall, and also impart good advice about other issues like an older brother would. A good tutor must definitely be dedicated to his job by keeping himself updated with the syllabus and be responsible in teaching the students the right things. A good tutor is also able to introduce life into the lessons and bring the student beyond the scope of just the textbook and homework, but to bring learning to a deeper level and invoke interest in the student. Finally, a good tutor is essentially a role model for the students.
