I have been teaching since 2007 (a year before I got into NIE) and i truly enjoy teaching, learning and growing with the kids. I started part-time tutoring mid of 2012. To me, every child is like a starfish washed ashore, and with every pick up i made from the shore, i'll be making a difference every single one.:)
I am able to commit 4-5pm Mon- Fri and Sat 10am-6pm.
Rapport Building
Sometimes i play card games (related to what is taught) with the kids, especially with bigger kids who may not love learning that much. Sometimes, I'll share picture books with younger kids, to help develop their love for reading. Depending on the level and age of the child, different age-appropriate activities will be used.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am currently teaching in a Primary School in the North East and that will definitely keep me abreast with the ministry's curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor will use age-appropriate activities to arouse the kids interest. Also, it is important to find out the needs of the child and help to improve them. On top of that, while grades may be important, it is important that i inculcate and role-model the right values which are crucial for character building.
