Taught 2 students. One Sec 2 Express Math & Science tuition and One Primary 6 math student. . My Sec 2 student have improved tremendously upon my teaching from 20% to 60% in class tests, and eventually got awarded the most improved award in her entire cohort. The P6 pupil has since achieved an A for PSLE MATH 2014.
I'm a very goal-oriented person. As such, during the first few lessons, I will talk to my student and know more about him/her. I will also review their previous latest exam papers to gauge their standard and then do goal setting with them. I will ask them to set a target which is realistic enough for them to feel that they can achieve it. I believe that setting a goal is very important, as students will know where they are heading to and will work hard for it.
I will either refer to the student's math textbook when teaching (if the textbook has sufficient practices) or I will buy at most 1 assessment book (with M.O.E based curriculum) for the child. Therefore keeping up with the latest curriculum.
Rapport Building
I'm currently in early childhood education course in temasek polytechnic. I learnt about special needs kids. I've also met a ADHD friend before and we've a very good relationship now. However I prefer my student to not be a special needs one.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Just graduated from secondary school so I'm quite familiar with the curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
I peer-tutored in secondary school and seen my friend improve upon my help. I've received merit bursary award in 2010 and scholarship award in 2012. I like to help people with their studies and see them improving. I received private tuition in 2011-2012 before and it helped me greatly. I improved from a C6 to A1 for my a math, and I'm confident that my student will improve upon my tutoring.
