We’ve all been at this stage at least once in our lives, where we wanted to start something new but not have the right resources or help to go about our journey. Well, the same can be said for people starting off with yoga but in a different way. The internet and even the yoga industry is so saturated with information about the different schools of yoga or the different techniques and tips that you can use to improve on your art. But sad to say, not everything out there is true and misinformation can be very dangerous especially when you’re new. Today, we want to show you some of the very best ways to get started with yoga and change your outlook on the authenticity of this art.

Starting Out

When first starting out, it would be good to decide based on your needs and lifestyle on how yoga can help improve and integrate smoothly into your life. Do you have normal office hours? Or does your job require you to be at work from early morning till late at night? Do you intend for yoga to be your main form of exercise? Or do you wish to actively adopt yoga as something more than just mere physical exercise? Such questions are important as they allow you to decide upon the proper school of yoga so that it can ultimately benefit you and alleviate your life to better places. Many people seem to ignore this as it may be too much of a hassle to research on such topics. However, yoga is more than that, and will benefit your life in more ways than you can perhaps, imagine.

Beginning your first session

After finding your preferred school of yoga, you can begin working on your yoga goals. Most schools of yoga start off by teaching you basic breathing exercises and postures (asanas) that you can incorporate into your daily lifestyle. Our advice would be to find some basic resources on the internet first and start off slow in the comfort of your house. There are countless of free resources on the internet once you’ve managed to narrow down your yoga methodologies and you’d be able to get started in no time. You may wish to purchase simple accessories such as yoga mats to aid in your comfort during your yoga sessions.

Advancing in your yoga experience

Once you’ve passed the phase where you seem to stagnate or feel demotivated, you could consider advancing your experience by attending more advanced classes in your vicinity or abroad. These would be a great opportunity for you to network with other yoga practitioners and share your experiences with each other. Additionally, since you’ve already built a foundation in yoga, you’ll find classes more manageable as advance postures and breathing techniques are built upon your beginner ones. Remember, learning is a continuous process and everyone is a “beginner” when approaching a new technique. Be open to advice and criticism and practise regularly so as to ensure that you are always at the top of your game. Lastly, enjoy the journey, for it will be a long and fruitful one on your journey of self-discovery!
