Commitment / Other Details: Most of them showed significant improvement in their grades especially in Maths since practice makes perfect and interest in the subject can be cultivated through the use of real life examples.

Rapport Building: I've always made it a point to try to know my students better not just in terms of how well they do in school but also their interests, likes and dislikes, their personalities etc. I believe in using encouragement, motivation or maybe even mini rewards at times and have succeeded in most cases using the soft approach. I believe that everyone has feelings and will appreciate what you have done for them.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I keep myself up to date with test papers, assessment books, online resources and the MOE's curriculum guidelines.

As a Good Tutor: As a tutor, I feel that I should maximise the tuition time I have with the students. I will NEVER make student do pages and pages of assessment papers while I sit there doing nothing. The entire 2 hours of tuition will be used to impart knowledge to the student, discuss questions and clarify doubts. That is the whole purpose of tuition.

For Maths, I will identify the student's weak areas and modify the approach accordingly. For example, if a student is weak in a particular topic and concept, I will make sure the student grasp the basic using real life instances/examples if possible. For those already strong in concepts, I will expose them to more challenging questions and get them to highlight the steps to solving the problems orally at times so that the time saved could be used for other types of questions.

For English, depending on their area of weakness (e.g. comprehension), I will focus on that and discuss the passages in assessment books/test papers with them, sometimes asking them questions that are not found in the passage/sharing with them ideas that they may use in compositions. At times, I may also share relevant newspaper articles with them.

I finished A level in 1 year, and I have tried to help my classmates out voluntarily when they doing A level H2 mathematics and it did work. They got the exact and easiest way to solve those problems. I trust myself that I can be a good tutor because I have patience and have the specific skills to teach them, let my "friends" learn knowledge with happiness instead of suffering. Commitment / Other Details: Able to start within a week's notice and can continue to give tuition until I graduate from University, after which I will find a replacement tutor for the child. However if I am able to continue even after finding a job, I will not hesitate to continue tutoring.

Rapport Building: I normally regularly discuss with my tutee's parents regarding their progress in class. Sometimes I will also suggest to the parents ways for them to help their child practice.

I always encourage my students to text me their questions, even outside of lesson time, when they encounter difficulty in their work. I try to answer them within 24 hours.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Looking at the content page of assessment books and asking the students themselves regarding their syllabus help myself to keep updated. As the syllabus changes regularly, I cannot assume that what I've learnt is the same as what they are currently learning. Additionally, different schools have their own methods of teaching so I try to cater to the different requirements by regularly asking the students what their schools are currently teaching.

As a Good Tutor: I believe a good tutor has to be able to think on his/her feet so as to be able to answer the student's queries promptly. A good tutor also has to have initiative to approach the students and parents to build a good rapport as I believe it takes two hands to clap, a good tutor should be able to work together with the student and parents to achieve the best results.

Tuition/Teaching Experience: I have been giving private tuition for the past 3 years. As someone who has also done Contract Teaching for a year, I decided to join the teaching industry as it is a job unlike any other.

As a teacher, I believe that for learning to take place, the child must first see the relevance of the subject and why they are learning it. Only then will they be able to enjoy the process of learning. Thus, I continually strive to make lessons fun and interesting to engage learners. In this day and age, piquing learners' interest might be challenging but I am willing to take up the challenge.

I will tweak my teaching style according to pupils' needs and am dedicated to seeing my tutees love a subject that they were once weak in. It gives me great satisfaction to see my tutees progress over time.
