Tuition/Teaching Experience: I have started tutoring my younger cousin of age 14 years old who is currently studying in Bendemeer Secondary School. I have been helping him with the subjects that he is having difficulty with such as mathematics and sciences. Since he is of blood relationship, i decided not to charge him for any of the tutoring fees. Commitment / Other Details: As of now, since i am currently waiting for my IB diploma results, i am relatively free and i can start tutoring anytime. Next year on, i will be serving my national service and therefore, i will most probably be able to tutor during the weekends as i am able to book out of camp. Hence, tutoring for the next 2 years will be very possible and highly likely. My timings as of now will be very flexible, therefore suiting to the preferences to the parents and students.

Rapport Building: I will normally build rapport with the students and parents but first having a short meeting with all of them together during the first lesson. During the first meeting, i will discuss with the parents and students on what are the relative goals that the parents would want their kid to achieve and then i would ask what the grades the student will personally want to achieve. After which i will assess the students capabilities in the subject then i will act accordingly. I will update the parents monthly about the students progress and how close or how far they are into achieving the relative goals. My personal contact information will also be passed on to both the parents and students so that they are able to contact me whenever if they have any questions about the progress of their child.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I keep myself updated with the curriculum by viewing the year end papers being tested. From that, i am able to assess the required skills and topics that is required to do well for the paper and also i will be able to know what is the common trend during the tested examinations. Therefore, i will then tutor the students dependent on my analyse of the year end papers. I will often go to popular bookstore to find latest textbook and then purchase them for tutoring purposes. As such, I will then be able to ensure that i am teaching the student according to the suitable syllabus which are tested. Hence, using such methods, i will then know what is suitable and required to teach the students ensuring that i do not teach any other unnecessary topics which are no longer in the tested syllabus.

As a Good Tutor: As a good tutor, i believe that one should not just care solely about the students education but also his well-being. A tutor should ensure that the work-play balance for the student is balanced out as the saying goes too much work makes jack a dull child. Lessons can be made more interesting by teaching in an interesting manner, linking key concepts with easy understandable real-life situations. This will leave a greater impact on the student and therefore allow them to understand the concept at hand easier and remember them. This will lead to easier application to the work that they are doing.

- Currently also teaching another girl for JC2 H2 Physics and H2 Math (student has not taken any test yet prior to tutoring by me) -> However for the JC2 girl, she found the tuition session really helpful. At the beginning of the first session, I asked her "What do you feel unsure Oscillation". She said, "I dont know. I think everything" After the 2 hour session, she commented, "Actually, this topic seems really easy." She even introduced me to more students (her friend, her little brother and sister) for tutoring session.

Rapport Building: As I prefer teaching JC students (having good concepts at JC topics), I will keep a friend-friend relationship with the student during lesson time so that he/she will feel at ease when asking questions and will not be too tensed. Being a just-graduated student also mean that I understand the feeling of students very very well as I have gone through the same education system.

After every month or every 2 months, I will update the parents (if requested to) about the progress of the student.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Having just graduated from a 6 Years Integrated Programmme (IP) School, River Valley High School (currently awaiting for the release of my A levels results next year), I have good knowledge about the curriculum.
Fear not, I have good grasp of JC1 and JC2 concepts for physics, chemistry, mathematics and economics as can be reflected in my report card throughout these 2 years.
I have been consistently fairing very well in H2 Physics, H2 Chemistry, H2 Mathematics and H1 Economics in my school, River Valley High School for both JC1 and JC2.
In fact, I attained the highest overall score (ie 100th percentile) for these 4 subjects as reflected in my holistic report in JC2.

In order to update myself throughout the years, I will take a look at my existing students' notes and tutorials.

As a Good Tutor: Being a good tutor means that you have to be understanding towards your students. You have to be "part of them" and stand in the perspective of the student. Allowing the student to understand the concept is very very important. Rushing into doing tons of works DOES NOT help in long term improvement of grades. What is more important is that he/she actually knows why he/she is using that method.

Summary of each topic on all the important pointers are also very important. For me, I will hand students handwritten summary notes that are very very important for tests and examinations.

Rapport Building: I will get to know the students better by asking them about their difficulties so I can understand them better. I will also share my experiences with them to encourage them. For younger students, I will encourage them by giving them a score system in which they will be rewarded for every 10 stars or stickers they have collected. After each month, I will SMS or talk to the student's parents to give them an update about their child's learning progress. I will speak to the parents to know more about their child's learning pace and abilities and will structure my lessons according to the child's needs and pace.

I constantly refer to the assessment objectives to ensure that in my lessons, I cover all the assessment objectives.
