Harry Potter was released more than 15 years ago, yet it remains one of the most-read children’s literature book in the world – and for a good reason too. The story which revolves around a young orphan who discovers that he is actually a wizard and brings the readers on a journey that evolves from adolescent to maturation. Not only is this book series perfect for young children reading about it, but the very fact that it mirrors problems young adolescents face growing up and teaches them how to deal with it remains one of the top reasons why parents are so quick to introduce this classic to their kids. If you’re still not convinced why Harry Potter should be introduced to your kids at a young age, here are some reasons to start now.

It’s a great book to get kids interested in reading. Most kids absolutely detest non-fiction books about science and the world, and letting them read books that are simplistic in nature is the very worst thing you could do to further their interest. Ditch those books like Peter & Jane or even the Enid Blyton series, they’re far too simplistic in nature and too far bound in reality.

Harry Potter, on the other hand, possesses some complex plots and world building that focuses on quality character development that many kids’ books do not have. Not to mention the magical world embedded within our world, such as Hogwarts or Diagon Alley that leaves the reader thrilled and ignited in suspense.

Harry Potter teaches life moral lessons that deeply influence our moral compasses. Everyone knows that childhood is a time where we are easily influenced by our surroundings and right and wrong seems like a rather treacherous topic to cover. Not only does the Harry Potter series have life lessons buried deep within the stories, they are relatable to kids at their young age. In fact, in a research carried out by psychologists, it revealed that the Harry Potter series has had an unintended effect of reducing prejudice in the readers. Improved attitudes towards stigmatized groups such as immigrants and refugees were seen from kids that identified with Harry in the book and perspective taking emerged from seeing multiple viewpoints of characters.

In a way Harry Potter teaches your kid about life, from start to end and how things are not always how they seem. There are complexities in characters such as Severus Snape and there are characters that are just plain evil. Your child will not only get to know what meaningful friendships really are like, he will experience it first hand as he reads through the series. In fact, this effect is so powerful that the virtual relations forged may even be more realistic than real relations in our world. Your child will come to realise how this world really is. So wait no further and pick the Harry Potter series up for your child today!
