Patient and sensitive to student's feelings.
I stress the importance of asking me questions whenever they are not sure about something.
Results-oriented. It is important to me that there is permanent improvement.
Teaching methods:
I conduct lessons with the exam format and syllabus in mind (e.g. skills to be tested). For lessons, I emphasize on foundation and practice for students who struggle with grammar. I use media content (such as video clips and movies) to generate discussion and to increase exposure to English. For worksheets, I choose content related to the child's interests and hobbies. For oral reading, I emphasize on articulation, enunciation, and appropriate stress and intonation.
IMPT: Overseas 24 May - 13 June 2014 (i.e. 1 school week followed by 2 weeks in June hols) Client must be okay with it but I will still give the child work to do while I am away.
Rapport Building
I start each lesson with a discussion on their interests so as to use content in line with their hobbies to make lessons more interesting. I encourage them to tell me how they feel and what they want to achieve. I also encourage them to ask me questions and not be afraid to ask for guidance.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I look at the exam syllabus and ensure that the student has sufficient practice for the relevant skills.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor does not intimidate the child as it will stifle their learning and love of the subject. A good tutor is a friend, whom the child is not hesitant to approach. The child should be given opportunity to give feedback to the tutor so they can feel a sense of control over their learning progress.
