Rapport Building
Building rapport with students and parents are equally important to help a student improve. On one side, you will have to understand the student learning habits and what they are weak in to feedback to the parents, to ensure that parents will also know how to educate their children when the tuition teachers are not around. Parents can also feedback to tuition teachers what they had observed and feedback to me. I make it a point to stay back for 5-10 min to talk to the parents when they are available at least twice a month, or better after every lesson to summarise what I have done for the day and what they should take note of. I am also open to suggestions and discussions for parents to feedback to me what they would want me to do. An open discussion is important to build rapport with both the parents and the students and for the students to feel comfortable with the teachers to allow him/her to ask questions at a more comfortable environment.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Reading up on MOE website, talking frequently to my MOE teachers and sometimes looking out for materials/borrowing from them to see the changes in curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
Open discussion with students/parents, understanding the needs and weakness of students and also the plus points of students. Allow students to have freedom in asking questions and ensuring they understand the concept/theory rather than just memorising. Aim to see improvements in students results and able to commit to tuition.
