Commitment / Other Details
I generally teach students all the way until their A levels so that I can guide them to achieve the A grade eventually. I only do 1 to 1 tuition to maximise the effectiveness in the students' learning
Rapport Building
Having taught in both JC and Secondary School, I am able to relate well with students' workload and understand how teaching and learning is done in school. Being a patient and dynamic teacher, I was awarded the Caring Teacher Award by NIE. I was also nominated by my ex-student for the President Award for Teacher. My students will not be afraid of asking me questions and clarifying their doubts during and after lessons.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As a former HOD, I often attend meetings about the latest syllabus at the MOE HQ. Now that I have left MOE schools, I keep in contact with colleagues in MOE, and also regularly look up the Examination Board website for the latest syllabus and specimen paper. I am familiar with the latest syllabus (beginning 2024 JC1) as well as the older syllabus (current JC2 2024).
As a Good Tutor
I have been specialising in the teaching of Mathematics at the A levels (and O levels previously). I employ socratic questioning in the teaching of Mathematics so that students understand the whys instead of merely the hows. Many students often struggle with H2 Math even though they get A1 for Amath in O levels. Having taught both O level and A level students before, I am able to give specific advice to help students bridge this learning gap. As a private tutor, I have taught 1 to 1 private tuition to many A level students from RI, HCI, ACJC, EJC, ASRJC, SAJC, RVHS, CJC, YIJC, TMJC. Most of my students improve from E or U to eventually A grades at the A levels. This includes students from the not-so-top JCs, even a JC2 repeat student who came to me for tuition after being made to repeat JC2. A point to note: I would require a weekly lesson of 2h in order for the teaching and learning to be more effective as 1.5h per session is too short. This is also to train student's concentration level as the H2 papers are 3h each, unlike O level.
