Commitment / Other Details
Currently a full time tutor, I teach everyday. During weekdays, I am committed to individual tuitions. On weekends, students come to my place for fun and engaging group tuitions.
Rapport Building
I have a good sense for building rapport with students. I understand what interests students and what puts them off. This fine balance of understanding with students is attained through the years of teaching in my previous school at Chung Cheng Main. Through many conversations and activities (camps, overseas trips) with my form classes and teaching classes, I realised that at many times, students just wants a listening ear.
Students enjoy our conversations. So much so that we still keep in touch. And I believe this is also a key ingredient towards teaching and learning. Students learn better when we are better able to relate.
Teaching is always kept dynamic, organising activities for lessons are highly encouraged and conversations with students are the most important towards learning.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Curriculum for tuition is always checked and prepared as early as 2 to 3 years before. Due to regular changes to syllabus to match societal needs, I will always check the syllabus 2 years in advance before I plan my lessons schedule. Regular contact with ex-colleagues and co-tutors also help in keeping myself updated with the curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, it is important to be firm and fair while we teach. Understanding content is a basic, knowing the student and teaching well is a standard, and preparing the student for a holistic, independent learning is a plus. Tutors not only have to teach well, but also keep in touch with the world so that the student learns to associate learning with application in the real world. The aim is to develop a critical thinker so that he/she can cope with problem solving in the future, independently.
