Commitment / Other Details
I am committed to see my stiudents through their end-of-year exams and I'll be more than pleased to continue in the new academic year if there isn't any major changes.
Rapport Building
I understand students tend to have a busy schedule and heavy workload in school, so I try to keep my lessons light-hearted, while maintaining a firm stance when the need arises. I constantly keep in touch with the students and I make myself available to questions they may have on a daily basis (via whatsapp etc.). I communicate well with the parents on the expectations I set (of myself and the students).
Parents are welcomed to learn some tips from me on how to help their own children better, in terms of maintaining a positive studying habit and hands-on help with their children's homework (some parents do like to take on a hands-on roles).
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I keep myself abreast of the latest curriculum with regularly reviews of the latest resources made available by publishers and more importantly, the updates announced on Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).
As a Good Tutor
I started part-time tutoring as an undergraduate 10 years ago, teaching both Mathematics and Science at Primary and Secondary levels (including pure physics and chemistry). In the recent 4 years as a full-time tutor, I've gradually moved away from teaching Science and focus on Mathematics as I find myself passionate about the subject - I focus on explaining mathematical concepts to my students in a clear and concise manner, break down seemingly complex problems into simpler parts and thereby applying what they learn on a wide range of problems. I am able to handle students with different competence levels, from various local schools to international school. I am able to adjust my teaching style accordingly as I believe every student absorbs and processes information in a different manner and pace.
Having worked with more than 75 students over the years, I've come to believe hard work is as equally important as talent/gift. Students under my charge generally improve their grades within a year - I've seen a handful of students who gradually progressed from D to B (or even A in a few cases), while numerous others have managed to score distinctions in their class tests and exams. I am dedicated and committed to bringing the best out of my students - Nothing beats seeing a gleam in the eye of a student who pass his/her math test for the first time (in a long while), or the joyous look of another who manages to reach his/her goal of scoring a distinction. I take immense pride in seeing my students do well and develop an interest in mathematics.
