Rapport Building
Well being friendly is the key and most importantly be understanding to their individual situation. If you cant do that, you are definitely incapable to adapt to different situations and scenarios and that itself is the fundamental requirement of teachers to be able to cope with difference in students.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I always speak with more students daily because of my network. Asking them the changes they go through and plan ahead for them because they are my ex students.
My job previously was to create lesson plans in the case of Speech and Drama which is still a subject because english language is key factor in it.
Hence, It was required that I am always up to date with the current curriculums that are being taught so through that I learn about the other subjects as well. and its always essential for me to know about what is being taught, that way I can constantly upgrade my Lesson plans for my Drama program or any other further program that I wish to pursue creating a program for.

As for more academic's perspectives , I do read up on the updated text books every now and then to keep myself ready if a student is keen to take me as his tutor.
As a Good Tutor
The basic qualities of a good tutor is to listen. Because most people just teach well yes thats good but if you do not listen to the individual students carefully , the purpose of understanding their weakness or their question becomes void hence even teaching well becomes pointless.
The second most important quality that I believe is being versatile. Versatility to change the idea of what is being taught and make it more simple to be absorbed by the students. What might sound easy to us will not necessarily be easy to others , understanding this fundamental logic makes you a better teacher.

Being approachable, allowing yourself to be the venue for students to ask questions more willingly. Because generally students have issues being unable to openly talk or be more introvert towards others. Because of this factor alot of disadvantages occur not only in their daily life but in their education as well.
Being able to create an image to your students that you are readily available and always motivating them and never discouraging them and always enlightening them with a positive attitude, makes you the one stop venue for students to open themselves up more and to communicate this way the barrier of communications is broken which allows every teacher to understand and help every students well.
