I'm currently a uni student, I've been giving private tuition for slightly over a year. I like to build rapport with the child during the first lesson as I believe that it is important to gain his/her trust before starting work proper. I'll revise school work with students and focus on their weaker areas of work. I will not teach the syllabus/topics faster than the school as I believe that if I were to teach the child first, he/she might feel that they've already learnt and thus will not pay attention in school.

As a good tutor, it is important to be able to get along well with the child and to be able to explain and speak in a way that is easy for him/her to understand. It is also important for the child to trust you and feel like he/she is able to rely on your for help with their work whenever necessary.
