Rapport Building
I think its important to let the parents know what the tutor(myself) would be going through wth their child on the day of tuition. A tutor should never be late, even if the tutor might be late he/she should inform in advance. Most importantly, as a tutor, you mush teach well and besides teaching well, you have to engage the student to ensure that the students able to absorb. It is of utmost importance to be patient kind and encouraging and of course be stern when you deem fit.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I keep myself updated with the curriculum by looking up online on the MOE's subject requirements. Also, I make sure to go to popular to look up on guidebooks/assessment books (TYS) to ensure that I prepare the student well for all major exams in the right format given by MOE through all the past year papers.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor is kind and encouraging, he/she is almost never late and can successfully engage the student and even befriend the student. She/he should be well aware of the student's/family's financial needs and provide tuition at affordable rates because ultimately you tutor because you have a passion for teaching and not primarily driven and blinded by monetary desires.
