Rapport Building
I would like to meet Parents and their child for an initial audition to ascertain the child's standard and his abilities. This will also allow the child and Parents to get to know me. I believe that it is important that the child likes and get along with the Teacher for lessons to be fruitful. I use a per lesson tracking system so that Parents can take a look to see the progress of their child's lessons. Parents are also welcomed to call me for an update if required.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I attend the yearly ABRSM seminars for updates on the curriculum. I also attend the seminars under CT ABRSM for teachers to upgrade and polish their teaching skills.
As a Good Tutor
I want to ensure that the child has a continued interest in music is very important as this will ensure that he progresses in his love for music not just in childhood but into adulthood. Taking exams for the instrument is not the do all and end all of the subject but just a means to gauge his progress. Music lessons with me is also a journey in life as I usually teach them for 6 to 10 years. This is much longer than any other teacher they may have. Developing their minds and characters are also an integral part of any learning journey.
