Tuition/Teaching Experience
I have been giving tuition ever since I entered polytechnic. Due to the passion I have for teaching, I took up on tutoring for students. As the years went by, I took tuitions for various levels. I have taught lower secondary student, a primary level and also kindergarten student. The strong passion towards teaching made me handle with the different level of students.
Lower secondary level - History Mathematics Science Social Studies Tamil
Upper secondary level - A Maths E Maths History Physics/Chem Social Studies Tamil
Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start on assignments immediately. However, due to my internship, I am currently only available on weekends. I would prefer to tutor one student at a time as I would be able to give my full attention and focus on one student. This would thus enable the student to concerntrate and learn better.
Rapport Building
From my previous tuition experience, I would start the session by talking to the students about their day in school, how they did for their class assignments and whether they have any upcoming tests or examinations. I would also ask them about their personal goals that they would like to acheive. By talking with the students, I get to know more their strengths and weaknesses in their school work. I also get to motivate students when they feel down as a result of bad results in their school work. At the end of the tuition sessions, I will talk to the parents about the student's performance in their work and school. I would also suggest on how both the parents and students could acheive the students personal goals.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I always have a copy of assessment book which is based on MOE's latest syllabus for the subject that I am tutoring. I always read up as much as I could before each tuition lessons. This will thus give me a better understanding on the topics that I am supposed to teach. I will also look through MOE's website to get updates about any of the changes that the ministry has made.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor does not only focus about just teaching the student. Its more than that. Its about building a good bond with the student. Its about ensuring that the student has understood what the tutor has taught. Its about giving the student confidence that he/she will be able to do better in their work and acheive better grades. Its about giving a student the courage to ask relavent questions without being afraid.
