Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start anytime and can commit as long as possible. For weekdays, preferrably from 4pm onwards as I am an undergraduate in NTU and for weekends, I am free on Sundays.
Rapport Building
I usually start of with bonding with the child first. I have to gain their interest and remove the awkwardness between us for them to enjoy their lessons. I believe enjoyment during tuition is important as when you enjoy during a learning process, it is easier to learn. Forming a bond with the tutee would ensure that the tutee would listen to me when it is time to be serious and can confide in me during times of hardship. Only then I can truly help him/her. For parents, I am able to constantly update them about their child's progress and inform them of what they can do to help their child with hsi/her academics.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I currently am teaching a primary 6 deaf girl so I am constantly exposed especially to primary school's curriculum. I have to prepare for every lesson so I often search for online materials for my tutee to help her improve in her studies. Also, my brother is in primary school as well and I often help him with his work at home.
As a Good Tutor
I think the most important thing is patience and understanding. We have to have the patience when teaching so as to not give up on the tutee no matter how many times you need to explain to them for them to understand. Understanding the tutee would mean their learning style. As every student is different, like how some are visual learners, it is important to understand how the tutee is like and adapt to their learning style for a more effective learning process.
