I have has about a year of tutoring a girl from China, who was in primary three, English. She showed improvement in her regular assignments such as spelling and comprehension exercises, and her overall score in the term and year-end exams. With a better grasp of the English language, she could better understand her math problem sums and did better in them as well.

Commitment / Other Details
I can start immediately and prefer to have the lessons in the evening.
Rapport Building
With the students, I usually start by first understanding their level of proficiency in the language. I also try to identify their problem areas, such as lack of vocabulary or grammatical errors, and target these areas to improve their overall grasp and understanding of the language. I will also try to introduce interesting reading materials, such as short articles from the newspaper of passages from storybooks, to cultivate a an interest in the language. I will usually update the parents on the progress of their child and highlight to them certain areas which we have been covering during the lessons.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I will visit the bookstores to find out the latest publication of the assessment books, and also updates about the various teaching approaches with my friends and family members who are teachers.
As a Good Tutor
You should build the child's understanding of what he/she has been taught in school and to cultivate a genuine interest in learning. One way to do this is to expose the child to a range of learning materials which not not have been taught in school but will help to reinforce the concepts learnt.
