Rapport Building
There are a large number of children and teenagers of various ages in my extended family, and I have tutored many of them to date. From these interactions, I have learnt the importance of understanding their viewpoints and opinions before tailoring my teaching style to suit their needs. While I am a strict tutor, there is always mutual respect between me and my students. I find that my students are willing to engage with the subject material and put in extra effort during my tutoring sessions because of this approach and rapport.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have nephews and nieces who have had PSLE, 'O' level and 'A' level examinations in the last 2 years. I also currently have two children in my home who have PSLE this year. I have taught these children using the curriculum from their schools, as well as using the latest 10-year series practice examinations. I always teach Secondary and JC students using the most recent 'O' level and 'A' level Curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
I usually begin by exploring students' strengths, educational concerns and clarifying doubts. I teach complex concepts to each student by relating these to their hobbies and interests, which, in my experience, is very effective in promoting their understanding of the subject material. This also helps students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, a skill which is increasingly being examined in the 'O' levels and 'A' levels. My students greatly benefited from this approach.
