Commitment / Other Details
I am able to commit to a student until he/she graduates from his/her respective course. I have many students whom I taught from Secondary 1 to Seconday 4/5. One IB student has been with me for 5 yrs.
Rapport Building
My past students have shown great improvement, some from Cs or Bs and eventually achieving As in their respective mathematics subjects.
I am a patient and dedicated teacher who believes a student requires exposure to various mathematics questions in order to do well so lots of practise will be provided during my class I also provide clear explanations to mathematical concepts so that students can understand instead of memorising. I am also flexible in my timings, so if a student has any last minute appointments, I usually will try my best to accomodate to his/her timings. In my professional career I have a Bachelor of Vet Science HonsIIA degree and I am an experienced veterinarian but I am currently taking a break to teach full time. I am on the Deans list for two semesters in 2011 and 2012 and won an award for excellence for veterinary pharmacology in 2013.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
To keep up with the curriculum, I usually go online to extract the latest maths questions and come up with good summarised materials so that I can teach more effectively and help my students understand complicated maths questions better. I am also constantly on the look out for courses which I can attend to improve my teaching methods. One of the courses I am looking to attend is how to teach higher order maths to dyslexic and dyscalculia students or special needs students. From there, I can better understand their struggles and also adapt the teaching methods to help my weaker students.
As a Good Tutor
I think the basic qualities of a good tutor is how approachable he/she is. I feel strongly that a good tutor should be non judgemental and help all students to achieve to the best of their ability. A good tutor should also be open minded and make learning maths enjoyable.
