I will whats app the students and parents differently. With regards to the parent, i give updates on the child and will try to answer her queries and worries with regards to the son. On the other hand, i would say that i am really friendly to the student and i try my best to seem like a mentor more than a teacher so that the student will feel more comfortable with me.

As a Good Tutor
I think that it is important for a good tutor to be patient and friendly. By being friendly, you will come off as approachable and therefore students will be more willing to share their concerns and ask questions. I think many students turn to tuition because school teachers are unable to give equal attention to all students and sometimes they tend to come off as fierce and unapproachable.
A tutor should also be willing to answer student's queries via whats app especially during exam period.
