I am a teacher with the Ministry of Education with a strong love of economics. I believe that the reason why many students dislike economics is because they have not been introduced and taught the subject the right way.

I have been giving economics tuition at both 'A' levels as well as University level. After my lessons, my students manage to understand key economics concepts and start to develop love and enthusiasm for the discipline. My personal goal for every student is to enable them to see the relevance and importance of economics in daily life. I believe that only then will they have the enthusiasm to pursue and master it as an academic discipline.

My overseas studies at the London School of Economics has allowed me to understand economics from various international perspectives. Although 'A' level students are not expected to study the subject in such depth, from experience, my familiarity with and depth of knowledge of the subject contributes greatly to explain concepts clearly.

I am confident of my ability to help students understand just what this unfamiliar subject is all about and to develop an interest in the discipline.

      Rapport Building
Besides tutoring, I will try to connect with tutees by having conversations with them to better gain their trust, and also understand their strengths, needs and concerns. I also believe it is crucial that we set small goals as stepping stones to achieve their ultimate aim, e.g. achieving a certain grade in the subject. I will also provide regular feedback to parents when necessary to ensure that parents are kept in the loop about their child's learning.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am currently a JC1 student who is very familiar with the recent O Level curriculum, especially for Science and Math subjects. Having been through the curriculum, I am aware of its demands and rigour, and I believe with my results, I will be able to guide tutees to effectively manage their revision and grasp critical concepts in preparing for tests and examinations.
      As a Good Tutor
Patience and empathy are qualities that are of paramount importance. Besides providing support in the academic aspect, a good tutor should be encouraging and tirelessly guide students, not giving up on them throughout, until they can achieve mastery. Moreover, a tutor should be knowledgeable about the subject matter to effectively impart relevant knowledge to tutees.

Able to start as soon as possible: matriculating August 2019, but will commit to teaching until end of 2019.
        Rapport Building
I believe in building rapport by demonstrating a passion for teaching and for my subject, as well as in clear communication of the goals and expectations of each party.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am updated with the current JC curriculum as I am currently teaching a Raffles Institution student who is J2 in 2019, and occasionally update myself with the O level curriculum by teaching my sister, who is currently in Secondary 3.
        As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, one should be concerned more with the student's learning than merely with their academic performance, attentive to the strengths and weaknesses in the student's understanding of core/fundamental concepts, and able to get the student to answer questions by themselves, rather than relying on the tutor to help them find the answers.

I will first talk to the parents to understand their worries and then talk to the students to understand their learning methods while give advices on how they can work on it. Not only that, I do message my students to ask about their well-being and progress in terms of their studies, and sometimes learning more about their goals in life other than just academics. Sometimes, I would buy some treats for my students to encourage them to work harder on their studies.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
        As a Good Tutor
Making lessons engaging is the basic quality of good tutors, as lessons can be dry from time to time. As such, building up the interest of students in learning is of paramount importance in terms of becoming better in their academics and their crave for knowledge, since lifelong learning is an essential habit in order to survive in the working society. Secondly, patience is another important virtue for tutors. As students can be confused when learning new topics that can rather hard to grasp at first, thus tutors have to be more patient in terms of repeating themselves or find other methods to help their students in their learning. Lastly, passion. Tutors should be passionate about teaching as their attitude towards teaching can have a big impact on their students' learning - whether or not it makes them look forward to wanting to know more about the subjects.

              Commitment / Other Details
I'm able to start right away.
              Rapport Building
I build rapport with kids by rewarding them with gifts when they do well, and encouraging them to try harder the next time when they don't. I always strive to be somebody whom the kid is not afraid to tell his/her problems to, as only through that way I can truly understand their weakness and help them to improve.
              Keeping Up with Curriculum
I study textbooks as well as test papers from other schools to keep up with the curriculum.
              As a Good Tutor
I feel that basic qualities are patience and perseverance.
