Tuition/Teaching Experience: I have been conducting PAL lessons in schools for primary school children. I have also conducted leadership training programmes for students in junior colleges and a series of lectures as part of a module for polytechnic students. I have also brought various groups of students on overseas expedition trips, facilitating and teaching them. I have became a mentor for my juniors since 2010 for the annual selection camp.

I have won the Singapore Mathematic Olympiad (Silver) and was top ten in the West Zone Mathematics competition when I was in secondary school. I have also represented my school in various mathematics competition, including the Maths Project Festival where our team was one of the finalist.

Tutoring Subjects

Commitment / Other Details: I am currently holding a part time job as a facilitator, going to schools to conduct lessons under the PAL (Program for Active Learning) by MOE. Under the PAL, the children are taught how to develop their teamwork, communication and leadership capabilities. Besides just education, life skills are as important in our ever changing world.

Rapport Building: I love to talk - talk with students, and parents. To find out how their children are doing in school, how their children are coping with the workload they have, and what difficulties their children are facing (in their subjects). I love to also find out from the children's point of view - why is it that they love/hate a subject, or a particular topic in the subject.

I also love to listen - listen to the children and the parents. Listen to their feedback. As every children has different learning abilities, and different ways of learning, I will tend to pay attention to every children and devise a study plan for each of the student to maximise their potential and learning ability.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I have close cousins who are in primary school and secondary school and I am currently also conducting lessons in school under the PAL. Although the lessons are considered enrichment lessons, I am able to experience the classroom feel, the way the teachers are teaching the kids and how each kids response differently to the same set of instructions.

As a Good Tutor: I think the basic qualities of a good tutor are that they are patient and they are pro-active. Students might not have a immediate improvement in their grades after the first month of lessons or that they might have a hard time gasping the concepts you have to teach them, but it's the end-satisfaction which you get when they Ace they final exams that keeps a tutor going.
