How to Become a Good Tutor?
As the importance of education is increasing drastically over years, many parents choose tutors to help their children in home work or projects. Parents hire tutors for difficult subjects such as Maths, English or for any particular test preparation. However, many of them don’t exactly know what are the main qualities of a good tutor.
Apart from the qualification and experience, there are many other factors that make a tutor- a good tutor. However, tutors often think that they have required degree and teaching experience and thus, they should come under the category of good qualified tutor, but there are many other things which are important equally.
Certainly, you should have the great knowledge and understanding of the subject. No teacher can teach a learner well if he himself don’t have any understanding of it. Don’t think that to become a good tutor, you have to memorize each and every thing of the subject. But make sure that you’re able to understand the material just after a short review before the session. For instance, a maths tutor with insufficient knowledge may know the formulas but a good tutor has the ability to derive it well. So, polish your knowledge to deliver scratch to end information in your lecture.
Experience also does matter. An experienced tutor can address the issue of the students more appropriately rather than the inexperienced one. If you have no experience of teaching and want to take it as a career, consider volunteering and tutoring friends before charging any fee for your services. Another important factor to consider is good communication skills. As you have to teach your students and elaborate the concepts, you should be able to explain the things properly. You can solve the problem of maths but making the student understand the solution is not an easy task.
On the top of it, a good tutor has the ability to judge the performance of the students. Many a times, student doesn’t understand the requirement of the subject and as a result, they receive poor grades. A Good tutor can easily understand the gaps and can provide the reviews on those particular areas so that students can improve their performance successfully. A tutor should have empathetic nature. It’s not necessary that all students have good learning skills. Being a tutor, you should help them to overcome their learning disabilities.
