Science tutors are often faced with the dilemma of getting students interested with the subject. Science is not an easy to understand for some people because it is a very hands-on subject that requires thorough analysis. Science is not just a textbook subject. Reading books is not enough. To understand it fully, one must be willing to experiment on theories and analyze concepts.

Science tutors can start teaching tutees by explaining vocabulary terms. Often, students get lost with the subject when they are faced with words that are new to them. You can also teach them to focus on root words so they can decode new terms if they encounter it on their own.

There are branches of science that rely heavily on equations, while there are some that rely on experimentation. For those branches that rely on equations, there’s no other way to learn them but by mastering the equations. Memorizing the equations will be easier for them if you make it clear how the equations come about.

For those branches that rely on experimentation, science tutors should be able to discuss laboratory with their tutees. Since the student already has lab at school, you can discuss the lab with him after he has tried the experiment. Lab experiments help students to understand theoretical information better. However, if they don’t have guidance, they might not be able to connect the relevance of such information with their experiment so you best be prepared to discuss it afterwards with him.

Always remember that there are several ways on how to explain a difficult concept. If the tutee does not understand a concept when explained the first time, don’t repeat the explanation the same way but rather find other ways of explaining it to him.
