Private Tutoring
The Pros And Cons of Private Tutoring
Does private tutoring really help? Working moms and dads, who do not have the time anymore to tend to their children’s school work, turn to the services of private tutors. Though it is an acceptable norm nowadays, some still believe that it just doesn’t work that way. Summarized here are some advantages and disadvantages that may be of help to those who are still contemplating on whether to take on private tutoring or not.
Overall, private tutoring can improve the student’s class standing. If there is an abrupt drop in grades, the tutor’s role is to go back and fill in the gaps so the child can pick up from there.
In cases where a child complains and is incapable in completing homework, the tutor shall teach and impose time management skills to smoothen homework blues. Aside from this, he or she will demonstrate organizational skills that the child can easily apply.
Should a child dread reading, chances are, he has poor comprehension skills. Since good reading skills are a major factor in any academic subject, it is a must that a tutor focuses on phonics, comprehension and fluency. A good tutor should make reading easy and fun for children. Private tutoring allows for more time for fun reading.
Engaging in private tutoring means having targeted one to one instruction and tailored fit lessons. A private tutor acknowledges that every child has unique learning abilities and needs. With this, he or she is able to provide the exact needed lessons and materials to the child.
On a different note, private tutoring also has its disadvantages. It poses as an expense on top of the regular tuition fee, which could be a burden for some parents who do not really have the means. Moreover, students may feel overly stressed because it means additional work after a busy day at school. They may be excessively mentally challenged to the point that they may feel burned out with the numerous tasks to finish.
Generally, a private tutor is good as long as parents are not financially burdened. At the same time, the student is able to apply good study habits which may translate to academic excellence, without the unnecessary headache.
