Tutoring Subjects

Commitment / Other Details: I'm able to start tuition at anytime. I am mainly holding group tuition sessions, day and time negotiable and location is at Tampines.

Rapport Building: For the child, the first approximately 20 minutes of my first session is always to get to know the child's interest, goals and feelings/issues about the tuition subject. The purpose of this is not just to build rapport but to it is useful at times when I am able to use analogies of their interest to explain complicated maths/science questions for them to understand better. The following sessions usually incorporates 5 minutes of asking how they are, how is school etc so that they start the lesson feeling comfortable. Most of the time, by the second/third lessons, the children themselves will tell be sharing with me about their school, life etc without needing me to ask as rapport has already been built.

For the parents, I have a small notebook that I usually issue every child during the first session. They are required to bring it every lesson for me to write the contents of the session so parents can check whenever needed.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I start every lesson with asking the children to update me with what they have learnt during the week and would ask them to review what they have learnt through their textbooks and address their issues. I would also be helping them with their school homework during the sessions.

As a Good Tutor: I believe in being patient and in understanding that every child is different. A tutor should get to know the child to infer their style of learning and try his/her best to adapt to it. Many a times the same method of teaching cannot work for all children and requires a tutor to try and identify the suitable method for the each individual child.
