I usually try to find out more about the student, their attitudes and preferred learning styles, so that I am able to cater my lessons towards them. Also, I do try to get to know the student as a person (their hobbies, their school life, etc) and do try to offer advice about school and life, having gone through what they are going through now.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I usually keep abreast with the syllabus by reviewing current year papers and discussing the curriculum with my old teachers whenever I visit them at school.
