Commitment / Other Details
I am willing to give extra time if the the student requires when they come to my place for tuition or when I am out teaching at tutee's place. Students usually text me through whatsapp to ask questions and clarify doubts. I have always committed myself to teach my students till the end of the national examinations, be it PSLE or GCE O and N Level examinations. Usually the
sessions intensify when the examination dates draw nearer at both parents' and students'
request. I have abundant resources to share with my tutees since I have painstakingly built it up over the years and constantly adding more.
Rapport Building
I am able to engage students in my lessons. Students have commented that they find my lessons useful and interesting. Hence, they do not realise that time passes quickly. I always encourage them to air their views and opinions and discuss current affairs with them which is so essential in helping them to cope with the demands of both writing and oral communication components of the examinations. I also make it a point to give an update on the child'd performance and progress to their parents and guardians on a regular basis because I believe parents indeed play a crucial part in helping their child improve and excel in their academic performance.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Being a current school teacher certainly has its benefits. I am updated with the latest changes and new requirements of the curriculum. The courses and numerous workshops I attend keep me abreast of what is going on in the education arena. In that way, I am able to tailor my lessons to help my students prepare for the changes in the curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
In summary, what I deem makes a good tutor is to be able to identify with the needs of the students and therefore adopt suitable teaching strategies that will cater to the latter's needs. The tutor should be a friend and a mentor to them and inspire as well as encourage students to work hard to fulfil their potential. A good tutor will be able to get students to work with him and motivate them to work to achieve the grades that they have set for themselves. The rest of the qualities are expected and they are a sense of responsibility and commitment.
