Rapport Building
As part of my teaching style, I usually would spend some time with the student to understand his/her capabilities and then set a realistic target to achieve in his/her next test/exam. And in preparation for exams, I would usually encourage the student to make his/her own summary notes for revision as this would help the student to truly understand the fundamentals. It would also help me to gauge his/her understanding. Besides making summary notes, I also do like to extract questions from assignment books, past year papers or other school papers for the students' assignments and encourages them to approach me anytime for any questions they would wish to clarify with me.

Often, I would also talk about off-school topics like life choices, and how to find motivation in life with the students. Sometimes, this help to motivate them and through talking about non-school related topics, I get to know more about my student's behaviour and working style. This helps me to better cater the teaching style to suit them and accelerates their understanding.

As for parents, I would usually give them regular updates on their children's progress and if the child needs support from them. This helps to keep the parents in light of their child's psychological state and stress level in terms of school work.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Checking the MOE website is the usual thing i would do and with comparison with new assignment books that comes out at the start of the year, I would also use them to help me streamline to the type of questions to focus on. In addition, getting other school's papers and checking with the student's school teacher's topics are some other ways I keep myself updated to the current curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
I believe a good tutor not only cares about the student's grades but also about his/her well being as a human. Ultimately, studies are as a foundation for you to build on, so that in the future, you will be made available to better prospects and thus, success in life. Therefore, it is actually very crucial that the student knows the reason why he/she is studying and I believe a good tutor should also educate the student in the midst of tutoring. I strongly hope that through tutoring, I could influence more students on their look at life, and motivate them to find their individual passion. And to support that, a sound education background and grades are something I wish to achieve with all my students.
