            As a Good Tutor
            I tutored CJC students on H2 'A' level Chemistry and Biology and they were able to understand concepts they did not previously understand and went into the exam hall with better confidence. The primary school students started out inattentive and unmotivated but eventually took interest in the subjects (including Mathematics, English, and Science) as we took time to work on the problems they faced when tackling questions. I'm always ready to extend tuition sessions to make sure students understand the concepts as long as the tutee is willing to continue.

              I'm able to start tuition at anytime. I am mainly holding group tuition sessions, day and time negotiable and location is at Tampines.

              For the child, the first approximately 20 minutes of my first session is always to get to know the child's interest, goals and feelings/issues about the tuition subject. The purpose of this is not just to build rapport but to it is useful at times when I am able to use analogies of their interest to explain complicated maths/science questions for them to understand better. The following sessions usually incorporates 5 minutes of asking how they are, how is school etc so that they start the lesson feeling comfortable. Most of the time, by the second/third lessons, the children themselves will tell be sharing with me about their school, life etc without needing me to ask as rapport has already been built.

              For the parents, I have a small notebook that I usually issue every child during the first session. They are required to bring it every lesson for me to write the contents of the session so parents can check whenever needed.
              Keeping Up with Curriculum
              I start every lesson with asking the children to update me with what they have learnt during the week and would ask them to review what they have learnt through their textbooks and address their issues. I would also be helping them with their school homework during the sessions.
              As a Good Tutor
              I believe in being patient and in understanding that every child is different. A tutor should get to know the child to infer their style of learning and try his/her best to adapt to it. Many a times the same method of teaching cannot work for all children and requires a tutor to try and identify the suitable method for the each individual child.

                    Every child is an individual and learns at his or her own pace. My teaching methods vary for different students as their flairs and learning styles are also different. Parents have to work hand in hand with the teacher to help students effectively. Efficiency and productivity do not come miraculously without effort if parents only expect and not help, as experience tells me from the preschool sector. Helping students set achievable goals are the best. Children now are not the same as children last time, so are parents and expectations. I strongly recommend similar expectations for parents with the teacher to best help the students.
                    Keeping Up with Curriculum
                    I create my own notes for Pri and Sec Math, and in progress for Chinese. I get papers online and from Popular, get updated with the curriculum looking at ten year series and syllabus examinable on the MOE website.
                    As a Good Tutor
                    I believe in self and intrinsic motivation as material rewards do not last the learning passion for long. I believe in building strong foundation for all knowledge learnt as the base help students grow in further studies. Tutoring is not just teaching. It is to enrich learning with patience. To listen and to understand the students, are important for tutors. Only then, can tutors help the the student grow their self-motivation and work under reasonable amount of stress well.
