Commitment / Other Details
Currently teaching full-time (day and weekends) and pursuing part time BSc Psychology at Singapore University of Social Sciences. Able to commence immediately & commit till end of the academic year.
Rapport Building
Every child is an individual and learns at his or her own pace. My teaching methods vary for different students as their flairs and learning styles are also different. Parents have to work hand in hand with the teacher to help students effectively. Efficiency and productivity do not come miraculously without effort if parents only expect and not help, as experience tells me from the preschool sector. Helping students set achievable goals are the best. Children now are not the same as children last time, so are parents and expectations. I strongly recommend similar expectations for parents with the teacher to best help the students.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I create my own notes for Pri and Sec Math, and in progress for Chinese. I get papers online and from Popular, get updated with the curriculum looking at ten year series and syllabus examinable on the MOE website.
As a Good Tutor
I believe in self and intrinsic motivation as material rewards do not last the learning passion for long. I believe in building strong foundation for all knowledge learnt as the base help students grow in further studies. Tutoring is not just teaching. It is to enrich learning with patience. To listen and to understand the students, are important for tutors. Only then, can tutors help the the student grow their self-motivation and work under reasonable amount of stress well.
