Commitment / Other Details
I would commit to tutoring full time on weekends and after school hours on weekdays preferably. Nonetheless, my school schedule is not fixed and my tutoring times can be adjustable.
Rapport Building
I would try to identify their proficiency in the subject and set goals to reach for this subject accordingly. I would also make sure the student is not pressured to finish his or her work but works in a comfortable pace to achieve the goals set. I would also give continual feedback to both the student and the parents to keep everyone on the same level in terms of the student's progression.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
The curriculum and subjects covered for primary, secondary and JC levels are found online. Thus, I would read up on the topics covered and read up if needed, to ensure I am well-versed with the subject that I am tutoring. I would get to past year exam papers from both official examinations and school examinations to get a gist of how the students would be tested of their knowledge in this subject. I would go on to prepare questions or pick up good questions from the past year questions to test the student. I would also supply summary notes or motivate the student to make his or her notes for the subject, that would make it a lot easier for him or her to revise for the subject.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor would be approachable yet firm. Thus, I would make sure that my student is comfortable with me and yet motivated and disciplined to complete the work given to him or her. I would not be extremely overbearing and give the student way more work than what he or she can handle on TOP of his or her school work. This way, the student can remain interested in doing work and most importantly, learning about the subject rather than getting burnt out. Once a student is passionate to learn and do well, he or she can never consider studying as a chore. I hope that I can achieve this as a tutor.
