In total, I have had 4 years of experience tutoring. This is in light of voluntarily tutoring my juniors in both my Secondary School and Junior College. I have seen my juniors improving up 3 grades.

Upper secondary level - A Maths Art Biology E Maths English Literature Malay

Rapport Building
In building rapport with students, I am usually very friendly. I would not punish the student unless he is wronged and would reward them accordingly for doing well. Establishing this relationship or understanding with the student is important. Gradually, the student would have the trust and confidence to do well in their studies. I am also open to the idea of being available beyond lesson timings by giving them my number and allowing them to ask me questions related to their homework.
In terms of building rapport with the parents, I feel that communication is important. I would not mind keeping their parents in the loop about what their son/daughter has been good in or also expressing my concerns with their child. Also, a respectable hello and goodbye is mandatory upon meeting their parents.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Currently I am a relief teacher in a neighbourhood secondary school and I have access to what is currently being taught in school. In addition, MOE provides us with a rubrics of what is being tested at the respective levels.
As a Good Tutor
A tutor should be patient and understanding to the student's needs. He should also be receptive to the student's well being and must be able to keep lessons fun and engaging. Additionally he should be adaptive to every student.
